PURPOSE

The purpose of the School Improvement Zone University and Community Advisory Board is to guide, advise and support the Zone's District Reform Initiative of eliminating low performing schools while invigorating teaching and learning at the 39 schools targeted for the Zone.

STRUCTURE

The advisory board includes university presidents, business professionals, elected officials, clergy, and parents. Each advisory board member serves for a term of three years. The diverse group of representatives from across the county serves as a working group to help the Zone accomplish the following goals:

•  Creating and maintaining learning environments where administrators and teachers are not working in isolation

•  Identifying support systems necessary to serve children holistically

•  Preparing secondary students for higher education and work
